She said that it will be a few weeks before the biopsy results are in. Here is what she told me earlier in the week:
I went to the dentist a couple of weeks ago, and he saw something in my mouth he wanted me to go see an oral surgeon about. I went today and the surgeon said that I have a lesion on my hard palate that could be either cancer or an autoimmune disease. He told me to make an appointment as soon as possible to have it taken out and biopsied. I am having it done this Friday afternoon [Today].
He said a disease I have never heard of [Necrotizing Sialometaplasia] and I was sort of in shock and didn't ask to many questions. When I got home and googled .hard palate white lesions , I really couldn't find anything about autoimmune disease. So...I won't really know anything until the biopsy comes back, but just didn't want you guys to hear it through the grapevine.

Phyllis, You have me worried.
I googled the words Necrotizing Sialometaplasia and got this much:
Prior to recognition of necrotizing sialometaplasia as a benign, self-limited lesion----
Please put it on the blog or email me as soon as you find out the results. I am praying for you.
Love,
Mom
oh Daniel...you make me laugh so hard. I had no idea this was going to make the blog....uggh..
The ONLY reason it had to be biopsied was because it is highly misdiagnosed because it looks the same as cancer. I have a very good oral surgeon. The disease sounds like a piece of cake to me. I am not worried now that the procedure is over. My family knows my biggest fear is dentists.
For the procedure I was awake and have four shots in my palate. The noises and tugging were the worst. But they removed it all in case it was cancer. I will get the results in 10 days, and I am enjoying a weekend high on painkillers! I seriously am not worried now that I know facts about the disease. I is an autoimmune disease that just does not sound that bad to me.
I am keenly aware that I am being given opportunities to face my worst fears. In the last four years, I have done things I never dreamed I would have the courage or ability to do.
Dentists are my worst fear and I faced it squarely yesterday and made it.
Bats are my second worst fear.
I anticipate any day now that I will be told my attic is infested with bats. I figure the way I will find out, is I will come down one morning and find a bat hanging from my fire place.
Or I will come in one night and one will fly by my head....oh wait...what am I thinking....that actually happened to Matthew recently and then a few nights later Mary was sitting on the couch talking and a bat came flying through their living room...
Now...THERE IS A STORY for the blog.
Daniel...get Matthew to post it. It is hilarious and true.
Mom, there've been bats in your belfry for years, if you know what I'm saying
keep us posted.
Found mostly on the posterior hard palate, is due to necrosis of minor salivary glands due to trauma (often palatal infiltrations of local anaesthetic or trauma during intubation).
Often painless, condition is self limiting and should resolve in 6-10 weeks.
Thank you Dr. Steve and Dr. Betty.
I prefer Dr. Steve because Dr. Betty's didn't make any sense at all.
Don't worry. Every friend I have has emailed me the info. That is why I am not worried. This may have developed as a result of my knee surgery. (intubation)
Like I said before...it seems like a piece of cake thing to deal with. I just had to go through the procedure to be safe.
Daniel exploited "my condition" for blog material....
Ok...Steve, Scott, Trish, you need to supply Daniel with "stuff" or you are going to keep getting grandchildren stuff since our family pretty much revolves around little people news.
Ideas:
When will Steve resume art shows?
Did Kristen move back home and how are all the dogs adjusting?
Did Nathan ease back into school?
What exciting thing is Karen up to with her many interests?
Is Scott dating?
How's the career?
Have his kids been inked yet?
How many cars DOES he have right now?
How is Trish's interior design project for her church going?
How many Christmas trees is she going to attempt this year?
Would Aunt Joann give us the heads up about the new color combination decision by the people who decide that?
Can she post pictures of her garden?
What shade of red is her hair these days?
Does she still drink a Pepsi every morning?
When will Steve resume art shows?
Hopefully next year. I am painting again.
Did Kristen move back home
Moving in today--pray for us all. She and Karen are really good friends when not living together.
and how are all the dogs adjusting?
Noisily! The Zoo is overflowing. And the girls are not getting along. The tension is driving us boys nuts. Now add Kristen into the house...
Did Nathan ease back into school?
Ease in? He charged back in. We rarely hear from him--he is in his element at school. He loves it.
What exciting thing is Karen up to with her many interests?
She is consumed with our house right now. I moved furniture yesterday. Not sure why but I just know to do it or I will never get to watch football. Luckily I can get out of real heavy lifting--another benefit of surgery.
What does inked mean?
tattoo (sp)
Gabe and Em want tattoos and I'm totally okay with that. NO! I have a great girlfriend whom I will introduce in the near future to the blog. The career is fine. Too many cars, three motorcycles.
Matthew-return my calls.
S
Are you asking Aunt Joanne about her hair color or me? I am now tortoise! Three to 4 shades of wonderful caramel and red, brown etc! RE Christmas trees -I am adding one - I started a Mr. Grinch tree a few years ago when I dropped a tree and it bent it perfectly! Cracker Barrel is a well kept secret with Christmas ornaments and I was there last week and cleaned them out with whoville type ornaments! I am still searching for that silver tree! I would still like to sell one or two themes so I can go on to something else. So many ideas so few rooms to put a tree in!
Phyllis,
Did you get the results back? You better lay off the chewing tobacco or pipe!
joking aside -do take it from me -you should take this seriously
