Chicago Y'all...

Karen and I entertained our friends from Michigan this past weekend. We visited the art museum, Millineum Park, Exchequer (famous pizza), Billy Goats (cheezeborger, no fries...chips), the Architectural riverboat tour, and finally Buddy Guy's (blues). A fun packed and busy 2 days. I literally laid down around 7 Sunday to watch the Cubs on TV and woke up the next morning at 7. I was bushed. But we had a blast. Chicago is a great city on a nice day. BTW--at Buddy Guy's we were watching a band and in walks Buddy Guy himself. He's on an 8 day break from his world tour. He was gracious--signed a few autographs and let me have my pic taken with him. Pretty cool treat. Anyway, a few pics. The building behind me is where I work. The paintings are my favorites.

Stephen...you look very distinguished with your beard.

WHY are they your favorite paintings?
They guy looks a little jaundiced to me. Is that just the photograph? I am curious about what it takes to capture your appreciation, since you are such a good artist.

I think I'll always feel guilty for taking Kirsten away from Chicago. It's the only really big city I've ever enjoyed, much better than LA or NY.

Well, Toronto's amazing...

Anyway, looks like a good time. What are the paintings you're in front of. You've never really talked about painters that you admire to me.

I love the old masters mainly. Rembrandt (the "jaundiced" one), Degas, Klimt, etc. I also love the work of Andrew Wyeth. Mainly, I love the artists who are both technically good and know how to capture emotions. You know me--I love faces. I believe more can be said by less--just look into a face. A million stories in the wrinkles, pot marks, scars, expressions, on and on. Come to Chi and I will take you on a tour and tell you all about it. : )
